Kain nodded at Penelope. "Yes, lets." He spoke, and glanded around the hallway. He had definatly been here before, and maybe when the candles were lit he would recognize it more, but now, he was getting annoyed that he couldn't tell where he knew it. He knew every turn, every crack in the wall, as if by memory. It scared him, to no end. He blinked a couple of times, and cast a charm to make the candles light up.
Kain looked around the hallway, and it was as if all of the previous grandour had come back to life. The entire room had an air of elegance, and Kain couldn't help but respect it. "I know this place." He whispered to himself, and looked around the room. He would have to ask Miss Antionette what the name of the ruin was later.
"It's lovely." He spoke, loud enough for Penelope and Draco to hear him. Draco was busy looking at the pictures on the wall. Kain walked beside him, and recognized the woman Draco was staring at. She was beautiful, with silky black hair and grey eyes, surrounded by mascara. "Evangeline Darrinella." Said her name plate beneith the moving picture. In the picture she was smiling, and laughed. She reminded Kain of Penelope, and he couldn't help but smile at her. He recognized her, too. "These pictures are wonderful." Draco spoke, and had moved on to the next one. "I agree, what about you Penelope?" Kain turned to Penelope.

Penelope was staring at the woman in the picture. At how happy she seemed. "What about you Penelope?" Kain asked, pulling Penelope's attention away from the moving photo.
"Mhm, they're amazing. The people all look so beautiful and rather regal don't you think? Its hard to imagine people that look this happy could have lived in a castle that has such bad vibes." Penelope replied, deciding to voice the feelings that she's been getting and hoping that she wasn't the only one.
She continued down the hallway looking at pictures when she spotted one toward the end that wasn't like the others. This one was of an older man, perhaps alittle older than her father, with black hair and cold grey eyes. His picture was unlike the others because instead of laughing and smiling, he simply stood there, glaring at everyone who dared walk the hallway.
On the picture frame were a group of symbols, but they were covered in dust so Penelope had to wipe the dust away with her finger. Under the dust was the first rune that she thought looked like a giant of some sort. She quickly grabbed her Ancient Runes text book and looked it up.
"According to our book, this rune is called Thurisaz. It means direct force of destruction and conflict. The next one is called Tiwaz. It means leadership and authority. I'm guessing that he was the head of the house..and had quite the temper. I wonder if the other picture frames have runes on them." Penelope said. "

Chelsea sighed as she cast the shrinking spell on herself, this was going to be lame. She looked round her group, at least she was with Draco, Will, Blaise and Kain, Slytherins. On the other hand she was stuck with Alice and the blood traitor Penelope, goodness, she hated the girl, if she had been put in Gryffindor she wouldn't have bothered going to school, poor Kyle he had to live with the blotch in his family tree she thought.
Kain, Penelope and Draco split off from the group, leaving Chelsea with Alice, Blaise and Will. Will lead the way down a corridor, it was cold and cob webbed, Chelsea didn't bother looking round it all looked the same to her.
"I love your hair Alice, did you do it yourself?" Chelsea asked, with only a hint at sarcasm, she smiled sweetly pretending to look interested. Alice looked taken aback for a second since Chelsea had usually refused to acknowledge that Alice even existed in other lessons. In the background Blaise sniggered, Will shot him an angry look and glared at Chelsea.
Angry that Will hadn't laughed along, she flounced off to walk with Blaise, the two hung back whispering and sniggering together.

Everyone had moved onto the other pictures, but Kain stayed staring at Evangeline. He wanted to smack himself in the face for not knowing who she was. "Yes, they all do look very regal. And, there must've been some tragedy, in order to make such a beautiful place so dark."
Kain had to force himself away from the woman's picture to look at Penelope's finding. "I'm guessing that he was the head of the house..and had quite the temper." Penelope had said. Kain looked at the man, and blinked twice. "He did." He smiled softly, and turned to Draco. "Lets check for runes, then." He added, and walked up to Evangeline's picture, and dusted off the bottom, seeing 2 runes, similiar to the man's. He looked through his Ancient Runes text-book, and smiled when he saw the two classified inside. "This first one is Hilioz, it represents a mother, as well as all her duties. Nurturing. He said, and looked at the second. This one is Linidiaz, which means calmness, seems to have virtually no temper." He paused, and looked up at her. She was waving at him daintly, with a big grin on her face. "I wonder who her child was." He admitted, and smiled. "They had a wonderful mother, I can tell."

Draco walked around the hallway, and noticed something constant in all of the pictures he had looked at. Granted, he hadn't seen all of them. But all of them had grey eyes, and dark hair. Sortof like...Kain. And one of them even had the last name of Indio, which was his cousin, if Draco remembered correctly. Draco looked over at Kain, and saw the look in his eyes. Draco vowed to figure out why Kain was so distant in here. And then, Draco got a crazy idea. Kain had said he knew this place. Maybe, he once lived in this house. Maybe, the tragedy he was talking about revolved around him.
Draco knew he was getting too excited, maybe he should just calm down. Kain had probably visisted here a while back, maybe when it was in its prime. "I wonder who her child was." Kain spoke, and Draco kept walking, and his eyes landed on a young boy, with jet black hair that fell lazily in front of his face, and was pushed gently over to one side. He had stone grey eyes, and in the picture, he was staring into space, blinked a couple of times, and giggled. When Draco looked at the name plate, he noticed it had been scratched off. "I bet you this is her kid." He said, and looked at the runes. Flipping through his book, his blue eyes landed on the two that matched the unknown boy. Draco wanted to push all thoughts of this boy being Kain out of his mind. Even though he did look like him. Shaking his head, he read aloud the 2 runes. "Linidiaz, same as the mother over there. He's calm, and hasn't got a visible temper." He started, and looked at the next one. This to was also scratched out a bit, but Draco couldn't see any of it.

Alice sighed and rolled her eyes when Chelsea commented on her hair, she really couldn't be bothered with her to be honest she thought Chelsea was very fake and pretty stupid.
Alice smiled fakely. "Oh thanks Chelsea your hairs erm..." Alice paused to find the right word "manufactered" she giggled fakely, Just like the rest of you she thought though she wouldn't say it.
Alice glanced at the rune puzzle. Hmm she thought getting out her book.
"lets see" she said out loud "Amicus means friends" she said, she looked at the light, erm... Lumina means light, I just can't figure out what the last one means" she said slightly confused
"any idea's" she asked the group.

Erin was looking at the ruined stone walls, when she heard Stacey squeal. She whipped her head up to see a small Streeler making it's way slowly into the castle ground. The small snail was pulsing different colours gently, leaving it's venomous trail of death and destruction behind it.
"It's fine Stace, just don't touch the trail!" Erin said to her friend.
She turned back to the wall and noticed a strange looking Q with a score through the centre. quickly she flipped through her book and found the page with the rune on.
"Okay, this rune is called Secrulix!" She said pointing to the rune, "It means secretive."
"Aaahhh," Martha said running a finger over the rune.
Suddenly the whole wall hissed and the stones crumbled back into a stone archway that led onto steep steps that spiraled downwards. Candle brackets lined the stone walls and with a flick of her wand, Erin lit the candles, giving the stairs a warm orange glow.
"Well done Martha!" She said to her friend beaming.
"It was an accident really." Martha admitted shrugging.

Penelope didn't understand why, but the sight of the scratched off nameplate and last rune made her sad. As if the child had been disowned or shuned. What could make a parent want to turn their back on such an innocent looking child, Penelope couldn't imagine. However, she knew some of the pain herself.
She reached up and gently touched the scratched out name plate on the picture frame. She then turned back to the picture of the man. No doubt the defacing of the boy's picture was done by him.
Then something in her mind clicked, Kain had said that the man in the picture did have a temper. She wondered if perhaps these people were ancestors of his or something. She watched him for a little while, and noticed that he seemed slightly distant. Penelope walked over to him and reached out to take his hand and squeezed it gently.
"Are you okay?" She asked, a slight bit of worry twinkling in her blue grey eyes.

Kain had walked over to the picture of the young boy, and looked down at the name plate, frowning. The boy in the picture stared at Kain, his soft hair bouncing playfully. He looked about the age of 10, and Kain couldn't help but stare. Something was so familiar.
This boy... Kain stopped, when he felt Penelope's hand take his own. He looked down at her quickly, and nodded. "Yes, I'm alright." He said, and looked back at the picture. At the back of his mind was the assumption that this boy, was in fact, him. After all, everything fit. "Lets move on, shall we?" He asked, and tore his stare away from the young boy. He took one last glance at the name plate, before he forced a weak smile, and went ahead to where Draco was. "Thank you, Penelope." He nodded at her, and Draco peered back at them. He was standing in front of a door, and the three opened it slowly. Inside was a living room, that contained old couches, bookshelves...candles, (That Draco quickly lit) And a fire place, which was now roaring.

Kyle followed the group down the white stone stairs. He was secretly glad that the stairway had candle brackets on the walls.
When they reached the end of the stairway, there was a big door. On the door was a symbol that looked like a capital Y with a straight light going up between the two diagonal lines. He looked through his Ancient Runes book.
"That symbol's called Algiz. It means protection." Kyle informed the group. He looked at everyone to see whether they should attempt to open the stone door or not.

"Well after you then Kyle," Erin said stepping backwards so Kyle could get at the door better and smirking.
The space outside the door was really cramped and would have been dark as pitch if it weren't for the candles. She looked at Martha, who had her usual mischevious grin on her face.
On no, Erin thought. She was planning something and probably going to scare every one half to death.

Will rolled his eyes and shot a look at the sniggering Blaize.
"I like your hair Alice" said Will sincerely "I think its really pretty" he said smiling at her.
Hmmm... he thought looking at the symbol it was definetly death "I think the last ones mortalitas"said Will he looked at the words and began to arrange the latin words on the door, it still didn't make sense there was definetly a word missing then he saw the hidden picture it was of something defeated that was it Fundo! The latin word for defeat!
The latin text now read Amicus Lumina ne Fundo mortalitas, through friends defeat death. How pleasant he thought to himself.
The door suddenly opened and theyall trekked in, there was a giant room but it was pitch black. "Lumos" he muttered the whole place lit up to reveal a hall, it was amazing like something out of a ghost film, he shuddered and carried on walking forward.

Penelope nodded, and returned Kain's weak smile. Letting go of his hand before they continued on with Draco. The room that they entered looked rather welcoming, perhaps it was due to the fact that the fireplace was lit. Candle light often gave everything a welcoming glow.
Mounted onto the walls of the room were heads of several animals many of which were magical. Even a dragon head was present. Apparently the men in the family enjoyed hunting and displaying the heads of their game as trophies. Penelope found this a disgusting sport.
She quickly looked around the room, until her eyes landed on what seemed to be a family crest hanging proudly above the fireplace.

Kyle let out an annoyed sigh and walked to the front of the group. He pushed on the stone door but it didn't move.
"Its stuck." Kyle said, slightly relieved by the thought that he wouldn't have to go in first.

Gryffin snickered at Kyle, he knew that Kyle just didn't want to be the first to enter the room.
"Here, let me try something." Gryffin said, coming to stand beside Kyle. He pointed his wand at the door and said "Alohomora."
With a groaning sound, the door opened slowly. Gryffin stepped aside and grinned at Kyle, "There you go pal." He said.
